- March 26
“Therefore give to Your servant an understanding heart to judge Your people, that I may discern between good and evil. For who is able to judge this great people of Yours?” (1 Kings 3:9, NKJV). God gives wisdom, discernment, and understanding liberally to anyone who asks, with no distinction between individuals. Without His Spirit to warn us of impending evil, we could get blindsided. We can make wise decisions only with His assistance.

“Beloved, do not put faith in every spirit, but prove (test) the spirits to discover whether they proceed from God; for many false prophets have gone forth into the world” (1 John 4:1, AMPC). God gave His children spiritual discernment, which is a gift the world doesn’t have. His Spirit brings us wisdom to detect doctrines and philosophies that contradict His Word of grace.

“Better is a little with righteousness than great revenues without right” (Proverbs 16:8). Honesty is very important to God, and He considers it a component of righteousness. An individual could work hard to establish great financial wealth for themselves, but unless that income is acquired honestly, it holds no value at all.

“Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding” (Proverbs 3:5). Life can be turbulent and painful sometimes, and there will always be situations we don’t understand. Some things were never intended for human comprehension, and trying to figure everything out only leads to frustration. Trusting God when we don’t have all the answers takes a burden off us.

“But blessed is the one who trusts in the LORD, whose confidence is in him. They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit” (Jeremiah 17:7, 8, NIV). Relying on God and having complete confidence in Him supplies us with a never-ending source of everything we need for a successful life. Unlike those who trust in everything else but Him, we’ll never have to fear or be anxious when trouble hits.

“Commit thy works unto the LORD, and thy thoughts shall be established” (Proverbs 16:3). Our thoughts and deeds are closely linked, and our actions reflect whatever we think and believe. When we make a decision to serve God, He’ll direct our thoughts to achieve His end.
- March 20
“Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass” (Psalm 37:5). God knows what’s in our hearts, and the things we want most out of life. Asking for His guidance and trusting Him in everything we do lets Him bring us success.
- March 19
“They looked unto him, and were lightened: and their faces were not ashamed” (Psalm 34:5). Shame is a weapon the devil uses against us, but Jesus went to the cross on our behalf so that we never have to be ashamed of anything. When we focus on Him, He takes this burden from us, and our heavy spirits are lightened.
- March 18
“No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their righteousness is of me, saith the LORD” (Isaiah 54:17). This promise covers not just physical weapons, but also words spoken against us. When we walk humbly as God’s children and obey Him, those who speak evil of us will have their own words come back to them.

“The reward of humility and the reverent and worshipful fear of the Lord is riches and honor and life” (Proverbs 22:4, AMPC). God has an abundant, richly rewarding life for us that we can accept by submitting ourselves to Him. The world doesn’t understand this concept of godly humility, and many people mistake it for pride and self-effort when they see the manifestations of it in our lives.

January 27
“Do not exalt yourself in the presence of the king, and do not stand in the place of the great; for it is better that he say to you, ‘Come up here,’ than that you should be put lower in the presence of the prince, whom your eyes have seen” (Proverbs 25:6, 7, NKJV)
Considering ourselves as better than others sets ourselves up for a fall. An “I am the greatest” attitude goes against the biblical teachings of putting others first. Putting ourselves last allows God to exalt us.
January 26
“Diverse weights [one for buying and another for selling] and diverse measures—both of them are exceedingly offensive and abhorrent to the LORD” (Proverbs 20:10, AMPC).
January 25
“He that hath knowledge spareth his words: and a man of understanding is of an excellent spirit. Even a fool, when he holdeth his peace, is counted wise: and he that shutteth his lips is esteemed a man of understanding” (Proverbs 17:27, 28).
Sometimes we do more harm than good by speaking without thinking first; the truly wise person knows when to refrain from saying anything. Words are powerful and can’t be taken back once they’re uttered. In a touchy situation, they add fuel to the fire.
January 24
“Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall. Better it is to be of an humble spirit with the lowly, than to divide the spoil with the proud” (Proverbs 16:18, 19).
A humble attitude pleases God. We live in an environment that exalts pride and self-centeredness; we therefore must beware of ungodly mindsets.
January 23
“Without counsel, plans go awry, but in the multitude of counselors they are established” (Proverbs 15:22, NKJV).
Seeking quality input before we begin something is the key to well-informed conclusions. Wise leaders never make decisions in a vacuum, but instead surround themselves with knowledgeable experts. This is true at any level of leadership.
January 22
“When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures” (James 4:3, NIV).
God wants to grant our requests when we pray, but only if we ask with the proper motivation and without selfish intent. He honors our prayers when we put others first the way He tells us to.
January 21
(Proverbs 12:26, NKJV).
The people we socialize with and spend time with are the ones whose morals and values ultimately affect us. This is a lesson we teach our children, but this Scripture is something adults should also remember.
January 20
“And having been perfected, He became the author of eternal salvation to all who obey Him, called by God as High Priest according to the order of Melchizedek” (Hebrews 5:9, 10, NKJV).
Jesus was fully human just like us, yet was perfected through His obedience to God. This gives us hope that we, too, can be perfected through Jesus when we obey His Word.
January 19
“No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and their righteousness is of me, saith the Lord” (Isaiah 54:17).
Violence can happen with no warning and at any time, but those who depend upon the Almighty for protection have nothing to fear. Trusting in God’s Word keeps us in perfect safety; He won’t allow any harm to come to us.
