- September 22
“And thou shalt set bounds unto the people round about, saying, Take heed to yourselves, that ye go not up into the mount, or touch the border of it: whosoever toucheth the mount shall be surely put to death” (Exodus 19:12). The Mosaic Law resulted in awe of God but also a strictly enforced distance from Him. In contrast, through Jesus Christ, believers now have confident access to God because His finished works removed the barrier that once separated humanity from Him.

“And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed” (Romans 13:11). Time has a spiritual urgency, and believers must live with a sense of expectation. Every day brings us closer to the full realization of our salvation; therefore, complacency has no place in the life of faith.

“And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel” (Mark 1:15). Repentance is more than feeling sorry for sin—it’s a change of mind that leads us to place our trust in Christ. When our thinking changes, our lives begin to reflect the reality of God’s kingdom.

“So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus. And because you belong to him, the power of the life-giving Spirit has freed you from the power of sin that leads to death” (Romans 8:1, 2, NLT). The freedom that God’s grace offers us isn’t something we strive to earn, but something we receive by faith. Living with this understanding empowers us to walk boldly in the liberty Christ has provided.

“Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect” (Romans 12:2, NLT). God changes our lives by first changing the way we think, enabling us to reject the world's patterns and embrace His truth. Aligning our thinking with His Word better equips us to recognize His will and experience the peace and wisdom that come from walking in it.

“Even before he made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in his eyes” (Ephesians 1:4, NLT). God's plan for our lives began long before we were ever born. He chose us in Christ based on His love and grace, not on our works or qualifications.

“So be truly glad. There is wonderful joy ahead, even though you must endure many trials for a little while” (1 Peter 1 6, NLT). Life brings us more than our share of trials; suffering doesn’t negate God's promises but becomes part of the process through which faith is strengthened and refined. We can endure hardships with confidence because our ultimate hope rests in God's eternal salvation.

“God’s law was given so that all people could see how sinful they were. But as people sinned more and more, God’s wonderful grace became more abundant” (Romans 5:20, NLT). This highlights both the seriousness of sin and the surpassing greatness of God's mercy. Instead of leaving us condemned because of our sins, He responds to our need with an overflowing supply of grace through Jesus Christ.

“And if by grace, then is it no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. But if it be of works, then it is no more grace: otherwise work is no more work” (Romans 11:6). There’s a clear distinction between grace and works that we must understand if we’re to avoid being deceived. Salvation is a gift that can’t be earned or deserved; if human effort contributed to salvation, grace would cease to be grace.

“And all the people answered together, and said, All that the Lord hath spoken we will do. And Moses returned the words of the people unto the Lord” (Exodus 19:8). When the people readily agreed to obey God's covenant before fully understanding the demands it would place on them, their response demonstrated good intentions but also the limitations of human commitment apart from God’s enabling grace. This serves as a reminder that obedience requires more than just enthusiasm, but also dependence on God.

March 16
“He becomes poor who works with a slack and idle hand, but the hand of the diligent makes rich” (Proverbs 10:4, AMPC).
In our imperfect world, we see lazy people with the ability to hold a job, but choose not to. God gives us the power to get wealth, and He rewards diligence and a willingness to put in an honest day’s work.
March 15
“Is it not enough for you to feed on the good pasture? Must you also trample the rest of your pasture with your feet? Is it not enough for you to drink clear water? Must you also muddy the rest with your feet? Must my flock feed on what you have trampled and drink what you have muddied with your feet?” (Ezekiel 34:18, 19, NIV).
God issued this reprimand to the Old-Testament leaders who selfishly put themselves first before the people they were charged with leading, but this still applies today. There are self-centered leaders not only in the world who only care for their own interests, but sometimes even in the church.
March 14
“But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned” (1 Corinthians 2:14).
The world relies on its own brand of intellectual knowledge to get by; this type of knowledge is devoid of God’s wisdom and can shift and change at any time. The gift of spiritual discernment is required for us to understand His teachings.
March 13
“We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; Persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed” (2 Corinthians 4:8, 9).
Trouble is part of life. We all feel discouraged occasionally; even the apostle Paul felt it from time to time. However, having a biblical perspective on this emotion helps us maintain our authority over it.
March 12
“Give therefore thy servant an understanding heart to judge thy people, that I may discern between good and bad: for who is able to judge this thy so great a people?” (1 Kings 3:9).
King Solomon, known far and wide for his wisdom and faithfulness to God, prayed this. Solomon could have asked for and received anything he wanted, yet he was wise enough to ask God for the gift of discernment.
March 11
“Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world” (1 John 4:1).
Spiritual discernment is a gift from God and is something every wise person should earnestly pray for. Without this supernatural ability, it’s impossible to tell the difference between the lies the world passes off as truth, and the eternal truths that undergird His spiritual laws.
March 10
“But when the set time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those under the law, that we might receive adoption to sonship. Because you are his sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out, ‘Abba, Father.’ So you are no longer a slave, but God’s child; and since you are his child, God has made you also an heir” (Galatians 4:4-7, NIV).
Jesus rescued us from having to live under the Law of Moses, which focused on self-effort and punishment. Because of His death and resurrection, we’re now living under grace, which focuses not on what we do, but on what He did through His love for us. Believers are now God’s children.
March 9
“For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus” (Galatians 3:26).
Without faith in Jesus and in what He did to give us eternal life and reopen the gates of heaven to us, we are part of a dying world. Our trust in God changes our family tree on a supernatural level, making us brothers and sisters to Christ Himself.
March 8
“Before destruction the heart of man is haughty, and before honour is humility” (Proverbs 18:12).
A proud, haughty attitude displeases God, and we create problems for ourselves when we operate in pride. We demonstrate true humility when we agree with what His Word says.
